An Interview With Amazing Bikini Model Monica Winn

Name: Monica Winn
Height/Weight: 5’3 – 105lbs
Nickname(s): Peanut

Q. How long have you been training?
A. Since I was 18

Q. What was your body like before you started training?
A. Very soft…what is known as “skinny fat”

Q. How do you keep yourself motivated and on-track through the grueling dieting in the last few weeks?
A. I think of my progress and envision myself onstage alongside other hard working competitors!

Q. Do you get more attention from the people now that you are in such good shape?
A. Yes. The most complimenting to me is compliments from other women who have had children and ask me “how I do it” or just to provide some advice.

Q. What is your favorite energy/pre-workout supplement? Protein supplement?
A. Fusion’s Purple K: it’s a creatine product that I like to use on and off-season. Allmax Chocolate PB protein powder

Q.How many days a week do you work out?
A. 5-6 (depending on my upcoming goal)

Q: How many exercises per body part do you typically do in a workout?
A: 3-5

Q: How much weight will you normally gain during the off-season?
A: I try to keep my weight gain in check. Usually about 7 lbs

Q. Do you believe in workout programs like Insanity or P90X?
A. I’m familiar with P90X. I do believe those programs are beneficial to some people but I need a gym environment for motivational purposes.

Q. What competitions have you participated in and what were the results?
A.
UFE 2008 – 1st Bikini Model
UFE 2009 – 2nd Bikini Model
OPA 2010 – 3rd Bikini Model

Q. What do you wish you had known before you started doing shows?
A. What post-show symptoms are like. Rebounding and hormones that are involved. It has been quite the experience each and every time but I have succeeded in getting back on track.

Q. What do you feel is the most important thing a bodybuilder/fitness/figure/bikini can have in order to be successful in this sport?
A. BALANCE – keeping focused and dedicated toward your goal while keeping family and friends a priority. I’m getting better at this each and every time I prep for competition.

Q. Is it not very hard to exercise and lift on such a low calorie diet? I am talking about the pre-contest diet. I know you follow a very low calorie pre-contest diet. Don’t you get hungry?
A. YES! I eat non-stop. I count my blessings that I love healthy food or I would be in big trouble. It get’s difficult near the end when carb intake is very limited. I just keep my nearby goal in mind and stay focused!

Q. For someone who is currently a non-competitor, but wants to be as healthy and fit as possible, what would you recommend as far as diet ratios and workout plan (i.e. combination of weights and cardio, how many days, etc.)?
A. I would seek a personal trainer for a basic training and nutritional plan

Q. Does your social life include others that are not into fitness or competition?
A. Yes

Q. Who is your favourite bodybuilder, fitness model, and/or athlete?
A. I’m a huge fan of Jamie Eason – she is such a huge inspiration

Q. What is your favorite healthy meal?
A. Egg whites, oatmeal, chicken and steak stir fries are on top of my list

Q. What is your favorite cheat meal?
A. Pizza and my mom’s homemade pasta!

Q. What is your favorite exercise?
A. Seated rows

Q. What is that one body part that you just can’t seem to bring up or make it look like you want?
A. Arms – they just won’t grow as quickly as my other body parts

Q. What made you get into Fitness and Competition?
A. I’ve worked out since I was 18 but developed a passion for competing after I had my second child 3 and a half years ago. I needed a new goal to help me get motivated about being in the gym again and it certainly worked!

Q. What is the best asset of your physique/body?
A. Legs and shoulders

Q. What are your methods for breaking through a plateau?
A. Taking time off dieting and training hard with more carbs/fuel in my system. You can only build so much when your body is going through dieting/deprivation. Because I’m so tiny (97 on competition day, 105 off-season), I like to give my body the fuel it needs to advance physically.

Q. What are your future plans?
A. I will continue remain active in the health/fitness and modelling industry. My personal goals are to continue to improve my physical conditioning, maintain a healthy lifestyle and step back on stage in 2011!
