Hey all...
I just started working out again, and decided to try the stronglifts 5X5. So far, I am about 3 weeks into it, and I really like it. The only thing is that I had to check my ego at the door because they make you lift some pretty light weights (like squatting the bar) to start. I am getting pretty into it, but my diet sucks! Any pointers on how to eat right on a budget, and without a whole lot of time?
Thanks.

hey welcome on board first off and yes we can help you out with diet.
all depends what you are looking for, to loose weight, or just keep the gains and gain more. you started back again and thats good news.
the main things are:
eggs
protein drinks
chicken breast
fist( white fish) salmon
lean beef
potato
brown rice
rice cakes
oatmeal
greens
and things like that what you can construct yor diet around and be very successful. let us know what you want to do and how much you want to weight and how much do you want to lose or gain, just few things coem to mind
and we can go from there.
but the best thing would be to post some photos of you now and let us look at you and it would be so much easier to make diet changes that could fit you right away.
we are here to help you out

Welcome, Scooter43!
Congrats on getting back into the swing of things. The hardest part is the first workout back, but you did that, and sounds as if you're back for more!
Try to get that diet in check, it's very important if you want to see the results of all that hard work. If you want the least amount of effort in the kitchen, hardboil those eggs, baked chickens they sell in the supermarkets make it extremely easy, but you don't want to do this all the time. Bagged & washed veggies also very convenient. Lot's of fruit and veggies, too.
Jerry has posted some very nice, quick & healthy recipes. I had the tuna burgers last night and they were scrumptious!
Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.

Wow, thanks guys!!!
Okay, so here is my deal. I currently weigh about 212 (that is what I weighed today, post workout). I want to keep putting on the muscle, but I am currently applying to the military medical school, and the maximum weight for my height is 195 (I am 5'11"). The last measurement of bodyfat had me at 16.9% bodyfat. I will post pictures as soon as I can figure out how to do it, and where the most recent pictures are. I think I have some excess baggage (I know I have some excess baggage) that I can shed and still put on some muscle.
Thanks for all of the suggestions. One specific question comes to mind right off the bat. For the protein shakes, the stronglifts website says to limit carbohydrates if at all possible. Should I try and find a protein powder that is low in carbs but high in protein? Do you recommend any powder in particular?
Thanks for all your help, and welcoming me, hopefully I can contribute and help others as well.

Well, check out the brain on Scooter!
Awesome, I hope that works out well for you Doc.
Me personally, I use Muscle Milk, But as long as you're eating well, this is just a supplement.
Try and get all of your protein from food and just use the Protein powders to add to your already protein packed diet.
Try to be the best you can be, even if your going to be a Doc. everyone will want to be on your side.

Here you can post the diet you using now:
Critique My Diet - Bodybuilding muscle forum, muscle forum, female bodybuilders
we will look at it and make adjustments accordingly and you can go from there
Here you can post your photo:
Post Your Pictures - Bodybuilding muscle forum, muscle forum, female bodybuilders
Its very easy to do, just start a new thread and below the window you would write a message you will find the bottom which will say MANAGE ATTACHMENTS and thats it
and what come to mind there are few zero carb proteins. the best i think its a NATURES BEST zero carb drinks, they taste like crap but man this is what i was using for the prep of the show, and others as well. And yes i do love Muscle milk just because its has lots of good fats, which helps to drop some LB.

Thanks for all the info. I will start to look into this again. Sorry for the lapse in response. My wife had our third child, I got into medical school (though sadly not the military medical school) and we moved from the east coast out to the west coast.
I will see about posting my diet, and posting any other questions that I have.
Thanks!!
