working out early AM, versus afternoon / PM
Does anyone have any guidance or info on the advantages to working out at one time or another? I am a morning workout guy, but it seems that all of the dieting info and other "hardcore" bodybuilding rags assume an afternoon workout... Should I be working out in the afternoon? It fits better into my schedule early morning and I like working out then, but if I get better gains in the afternoon, I can see if I can make it work.
Please help if possible.

working out time its a habit for one thing, but most of the time people do workout when they have time. so really if you have time for mornings its all fine, because i do have time for morning as well, even i would love to work out at nights. so really there is no difference. dot worry about that and dont over-think it as well, go do your thing and thats it. i hope that answered the question.

Okay, I just always read people's schedules about how they have their workouts in the afternoons, and I thought maybe there was something to that. So I just adjust meals and supplements accordingly?
Thanks for your input. I am really ready to start hitting this hard. I am headed to medical school in the fall, and I want to be in really good shape for it.
Thanks for your help!

I do both due to my works shift pattern. If i am on day shifts i will ride to work at 0440hrs and then hit the gym for 1 hour, then ride home at the end of my shift. If i am on my night shift i will go into the gym during my dinner break 2330hrs for 1 hour.
I find no great difference between either work out, i enjoy them both and seem to have the same energy levels for both.
I agree that exercise is great no matter what time of day it is.

I also work different shifts at different times, but it seems to really throw me off more than you. If I'm working nights or afternoons instead of my usual day shift, its very hard to have the energy to workout. I seem out of sync until I get back to my regular work schedule. What's your trick?

I try and treat each shift like a day shift. If i am on nights i will try and sleep until about 1 and a half hours before i am due into work. This can be hard to do especially if the kids are in the house. The more sleep i get during the day the better, i wouldn't get up at 0030 during the night and watch telly until i went to work on a day shift so i don't do it on a night shift either.
When awake i will have breakfast, although strange at 1630hrs it is still the start of my day. So its cereal and toast with a mug of coffee. I will then have a snack at 2100hrs during a break at work and then have my lunch at 0100hrs just like i would on a day shift, just 12 hours difference!
When home i try and stay awake for about and hour and a half if i can. If i were on a day shift i would not go to sleep at 1800 when i walked through the door, so i just stay up that bit longer if i can.
Don't get me wrong, its not easy as i'm sure you know already. But, with a little bit of structuring it can be a little better and you might increase your energy levels with a little more rest.
Good luck.

Thanks! I think I will try some of those things out. I've tried in the past sleeping right after my shift, mostly so I could be up whenthe kids are done with school. They are old enough now, though, that your plan could work for me. We'll see...
